The acoustics of your room have a far greater effect on subwoofer performance than on your other speakers. Subwoofers are far more complicated to connect and fine-tune than anything else in an audio system. But use it judiciously, and it can make the whole experience much more satisfying.
Use it carelessly, and it’ll overpower everything else. A subwoofer is to sound what wasabi is to sushi.
